Upper Elementary Newsletter Dear Parents,
January was a fun and exciting month! The children enjoyed their field trip to the Artemus Ham Hall to see Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. We would like to thank all of the parents that shared their time and helped us transport the children safely to the show and back.
February is going to be a busy, yet an exciting month for the children.
In Math, the children will continue to work in their respective levels. We will learn about money, measurement, and volume. In Language Arts, we will identify the Mood and Voice of Verbs, Regular and Irregular, Transitive and Intransitive, as well as Compliments and Linking Verbs. In Astronomy and Ecology, we will continue our studies of asteroids, comets, and meteors, as well as exploring the History of Human Space Flight and Space Flight Beyond the Moon. In Botany, we are to examine fleshy and dry fruits, dissect a seed, identify common garden flowers, and identify common shrubs and trees. In History, we will track westward expansion, create a Native American dance, and report on the War of 1812. In Geography, our goal is to examine aerial photographs, create a map of the school, investigate the GPS, and review North America. Our Health Science class with Dr. Young will shift gears into more personal studies by exploring personal hygiene, ways to prevent sickness, building media awareness, and Internet use. In order to build the skills and confidence of the children, our Speech (Show and Share) class will be more challenging beginning this month. They will be given a template with their Homework Packets to be used to write about what they will be bringing the following Friday to class. They are to write a short essay to present to their peers with their show and share. This activity is to ensure that they further improve on their writing, as well as their public speaking skills. On Monday, February 21st, we will not have class in observance of President’s Day. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time. Thank you, Mr. Jedd |
